Understanding the 50-B Protective Order
In North Carolina, the 50-B protective order is a restraining order. It provides emergency powers to the accuser without any notice to the accused. The accuser can obtain a 50-B order without you even being in the courtroom.
The order goes into effect when you receive it and it is valid for 10 days. Within that 10-day period, a hearing is held. At this hearing, our criminal defense attorneys will defend you from the accusations of domestic violence. Without adequate counsel, you risk the 50-B order being put into effect for a full year, or longer.
We understand that this is an emotionally charged situation. Whether you are fighting a new 50-B order or have violated an existing order, our attorneys will get down to the facts. We understand that these cases are usually a case of "he said, she said." However, our lawyers will build an effective defense in time for the hearing. Time may be limited but we have the experience necessary to defend your interests before your rights are permanently affected.
